Alexander S. Poznyak Gorbatch, CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico, Mexico

Bio: Alexander S. Poznyak (Alexander Semion Pozniak Gorbatch) was graduated from

Moscow Physical Technical Institute (MPhTI) in 1970. He earned Ph.D. and Doctor
Degrees from the Institute of Control Sciences of Russian Academy of Sciences in 1978
and 1989, respectively. From 1973 up to 1993 he served this institute as researcher and
leading researcher, and in 1993 he accepted a post of full professor (3-F) at
CINVESTAV of IPN in Mexico. 8years he was the head of the Automatic Control
Department.
 
He is the director of 41 PhD thesis’s (37 in Mexico). He has published
more than 210 papers in different international journals and 13 books including
“Adaptive Choice of Variants” (Nauka, Moscow, 1986), “Learning Automata: Theory
and Applications” (Elsivier-Pergamon, 1994), “ Learning “Automata and Stochastic
Programming” (Springer-Verlag, 1997), “Self-learning Control of Finite Markov
Chains” (Marcel Dekker, 2000), “Differential Neural Networks: Identification, State
Estimation and Trajectory Tracking” (World Scientific, 2001) and “Advance
mathematical Tools for Automatic Control Engineers. Vol. 1: Deterministic Technique”
(Elsevier, 2008) and Vol.2: Stochastic Technique (Elsevier, 2009), “Robust Maximum
Principle: Theory and Applications” (Burkhauser, 2012), ., “Robust Output Optimal
Control via Integral Sliding Mode” (Birkhauser, 2014) and “Attractive Ellipsoids in
Robust Control” (Birkhauser, 2014). He is Regular Member of Mexican Academy of
Sciences and System of National Investigators (SNI-Emerito from 2014).
 
He is Fellow of IMA (Institute of Mathematics and Its Applications, Essex UK) and
Associated Editor of Oxford-IMA Journal on Mathematical Control and Information, of
Kybernetika (Chech Republic), Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid systems (IFAC) as well as
Iberamerican Int. Journal on “Computations and Systems”. He was also Associated
Editor of CDC, ACC and Member of Editorial Board of IEEE CSS. He is a member of
the Evaluation Committee of SNI (Ministry of Science and Technology) responsible for
Engineering Science and Technology Foundation in Mexico, and a member of Award
Committee of Premium of Mexico on Science and Technology. In 2014 he was invited
by the USA Government to serve as the member of NSF committee on “Neuro Sciences
and Artificial Intelligence”.
 

 

 

 

Jeff Clune, Uber AI Labs, University of Wyoming, Wyoming, USA
 
Bio: Jeff Clune is the Loy and Edith Harris Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Wyoming and a Senior Research Manager and founding member of Uber AI Labs, which was formed after Uber acquired a startup (Geometric Intelligence) he helped lead. Jeff focuses on robotics and training neural networks via deep learning, deep reinforcement learning, and evolutionary algorithms.
 
He has also researched open questions in evolutionary biology using computational models of evolution, including the evolutionary origins of modularity, hierarchy, and evolvability. Prior to becoming a professor, he was a Research Scientist at Cornell University, received a PhD in computer science and an MA in philosophy from Michigan State University, and received a BA in philosophy from the University of Michigan.
 
 

 

 

 

David J. Atkinson, Silicon Valley Research & Development Center Continental AG, USA
 
Bio: Dr. David J. Atkinson is Head of Systems & Technology and Chief Research Scientist for Artificial Intelligence at Continental’s Silicon Valley Research & Development Center. He has held this position since May 2017 and oversees systems and technology projects for future transportation and mobility systems, with a focus on intelligent driver assistance, autonomous vehicles, and smart cities.
 
Dr. Atkinson’s career spans basic research in Artificial Intelligence to senior executive positions in management of research and technology. Before joining Continental, he worked at the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition, where he led research projects in the area of trustworthy autonomous robotic systems.
 
Previously, Dr. Atkinson worked twenty years for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory at Caltech in multiple positions of increasing technical management responsibility. He was a founder of NASA’s Artificial Intelligence program and made significant contributions to spacecraft autonomy, planetary exploration robotics and spacecraft control center automation. An entrepreneur in the early 1990’s, Dr. Atkinson was co-founder of a successful startup that provided Internet-based supply-chain management services to the electronics industry.

Dr. Atkinson received the Doctor of Technology (D. Tech.) and was awarded the rank of Docent in Computer Systems Engineering from Chalmers University of Sweden in Göteborg, Sweden. He received dual Master of Science (M.S.) and Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) degrees in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence from Yale University and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from the University of Michigan.

 

Gregory O'Hare, School of Computer Science, University College Dublin, Ireland

Bio:  
He is a Professor of Computer Science at the University College Dublin (UCD), he is lead principal investigator in Crop OptimisatioN through Sensing Understanding and visualiSation (CONSUS) a €17.65 Million collaborative research partnership between University College Dublin (UCD) and Origin Enterprises PLC that has been supported through the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Strategic Partnership Programme 2017-2022. Prof. O’Hare is a researcher of international repute and has published some 470 papers in International Journals and peer reviewed conferences. His research focuses around multi-agent systems, ubiquitous computing, pervasive computing, ambient intelligence,  wireless sensor networks and precision agriculture.

Topics of interest: agents and wireless sensor networks, in network intelligence, distributed network intelligence, autonomic WSNs, ubiquitous sensing, intelligent and adaptive sensing infrastructure, intelligent sensing middleware.
